Few things…

- I’m still vegetarian…
Who would ever have believed I could last this long eating just vegetables, with no sign of going back to eating meat? Not me, anyway. I love meat and I eat with two meat eaters most nights of the week and I do miss it, but I feel no desire to actually eat it again.
I still can’t cook, so I literally eat plates of veg, more veg and even more veg, day after day.
- As an indirect result of the publicity about the Dutch kidney donor TV ‘reality’ show, I have finally decided to overcome my fear of organ donation and become a donor and so has my partner.
- I’m trying to find a humane method of ridding my garden of slugs. I refuse to kill them anymore. It’s cruel and unfair. They need to eat just like we do. If I had control of the garden issue, I would just let them eat my French Marigolds.
- I saved yet another mouse from my aunt’s cat, Scooby, yesterday. It was a real survivor – had gotten away from Scoob and lived in his home for 24 hours before I came along. It then gave me the runaround for at least half an hour before I managed to catch it,. Then it sank its unfeasibly large teeth into my hands three times before I could put it safely back in the woods. I couldn’t believe it. Little bugger!
I hate the way UK TV chat show hostess Trisha Goddard, treats guests with phobias.
She humiliates them by bringing on-stage with them the very thing they are terrified of, and invariably gets a laugh out of it at the phobic’s very costly expense. That is plain wrong and I’m heartily sick of seeing her do it on TV.
She reduced a grown woman to crying for her Mummy by allowing a man in a clown getup to lurk sinisterly behind a set of stairs, creeping further and further out into view until the poor woman saw him and started to cry. Trisha then says, most disingenuously “What is it? Is something frightening you?” Ugh…. Even the guy in the clown suit looked downright embarassed.
Another time she had someone charge onto the stage with a huge plate of baked beans when she was talking to a guest who was terrified of them. The poor guy got up and ran off, saying “No, I’m being dead serious, I’m really scared.” The audience, of course, found this absolutely hilarious.
I think Ms Goddard would probably justify her actions by saying that most people have no idea just how bad phobias can be and we need to take drastic action to illustrate this to them. I don’t buy that. The only person around her who needs to be convinced of how terrified the guest is, would be the therapist.
How on Earth can I get Life Insurance?
May 23, 2007
I can’t find an insurer who will offer me an Endowment Policy on me life!!!
The Prudential will offer me £10 000 cover over 15 years for £1.70 per month, oh wait, no….then they tell me that £1.70 is too low, so I need to add extra features to bring the monthly amount up to £5.00.
All I want is a couple of grand to bury me when I pop off and, if I don’t die, I would like me money back, please. I don’t need to, and nor can I afford to, pay £10 a month for a humungous amount of money payable on my death…to whom???
If there is anyone out there who can either give me an apprenticeship designing web sites, in computer security, system admin, tech help OR point me to a really good high-level on-line course, I would be most grateful.
I’m heartily sick of wasting all the years I spent studying sitting at home playing with my computers all day. I’m terrified of a future without a job.
I REALLY NEED A JOB.
In addition to my other Degrees, I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in IT (with Web Development). This means I completed more web development courses during the year-long intensive course than any other subject.
The course involved the following subjects:
Networking Principles and Strategy,
Software Development (Visual Basic, Delphi)
Relational Database Management Systems (SQL, MS Access)
Systems Analysis
Web Development (hand coding)
Software Design and Testing
Object-Oriented Software Implementation (C++)
Business information Technology Systems.
I have experience in the following, among other skills:
HTML
Javascript
CSS
PHP
Apache
MySQL
Dreamweaver
Fireworks
Photoshop
GoLive
Flash
I am familiar with most operating systems, and have had extensive use of MacOS and Linux. I can build, and have built, computers. I’m writing this on my own custom build. In 18 years of using computers, I’ve never once had to phone technical support and have solved almost every hardware and software problem I’ve encountered myself. I love computers and I’m a self-confessed geekgrrl. ;p
I completed a 6-month full-time MCSE course and sat the Windows 2000 Server exam.
If you can help, please email me and I’ll send you my CV. Even advice as to what skills I need to update if I want to get a job in IT would be greatly appreciated. How did you get your job? How did you acquire the skills and ability before employment that you use every day in your job?
NOD32 and how it may be affecting you
May 1, 2007
If you have ever installed NOD32 antivirus application and uninstalled it, try deleting the file called imon.dll in your Windows/system32 folder and then using your mail program and browser.
You can’t?
That’s because the file is bound to several processes without which you can’t use the Internet. You won’t even be able to ping anyone.
On my system the following 7 processes are currently dependent on imon.dll:
lsass.exe
I uninstalled NOD32 so long ago I can’t remember when it was. Only when I deleted imon.dll the other day and lost all my Internet capability did I realise what it was doing.
4 instances of svchost.exe
alg.exe
thunderbird.exe
firefox.exe
How can a software company write code that is left running permanently on users’ systems after being “uninstalled” and which has such a drastic affect? It’s ridiculous. I contaced ESET about this and so far, they have been unable to help me get this file off my system.
UPDATE
Finally managed to get rid of it. Now I turn my attention to getting my Speedtouch 330 Modem to work with Windows Pista.
