Shameful Finger-Pointing by Blake Aldridge
August 12, 2008
British Olympic diver, Blake “It wasn’t me, officer” Aldridge today blamed his 14 year old diving partner for their disappointing performance in the men’s synchronised 10 metre platform event. Aldridge, seeing his Mother in the crowd, and having a mobile phone on him (as you do when you’re competing in Olympic pool events) shouted at her to PHONE HIM while he was in the midst of the competition, just before his final dive, in fact. Now, if there was ever a worse time to use a mobile phone for a completely useless phonecall, I can’t think of it.
Then, in a pathetic attempt to divert attention from his ridiculous behaviour….he turned on his 14 year old partner and accused him of suffering from nerves, unlike him.
This is what the sneaky little yellow belly had to say:
“He had a pop at me before the last dive – I saw my mum in the audience and I asked her to give me a call and Tom went to me ‘Why are you on the phone? We’re still in the competition and we’ve got another dive to do.” Good for Tom!
He whined: “That’s just Thomas – he’s over-nervous. Thomas should not be worrying about what I’m doing but he was worrying about everyone and everything and that to me is really the sole reason why he didn’t perform.” I think someone needs to be worrying about what you’re doing, mate.
“We were out of character, Tom was nervous and that’s what happens. Certainly not so much for me, I’m a little bit older than Tom so I can take things on the chin a bit.“
Well take this on the chin – in my opinion, you’re a disgrace and an embarrassment to your country. I think it was you pissing about with your mobile, scanning the crowd for your Mummy, communicating to her in a very noisy environment that you wanted her to PHONE YOU! and taking and participating in a phonecall that affected your performance, not the fact that your 14 year old team mate took exception to it. He was right to do so!
What did you say to Mumsy when she called you anyway? “Mum? It’s me!!!! Yeah! I’m on the diving board!”
Great.
